Significance - Fullfilling Your God Given Purpose

Saturday, 08 September 2012 02:57
"May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us- yes, establish the work of our hands." Psalm 90:17

Failing to match our work with our giftedness and calling is like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.  If thst happens over an extended period, a person crashes.

"In this way the man grew exceedingly prosperous and came to own large flocks, and maidservants and menservants, and camels and donkeys." - Genesis 30:43

Jacob left his homeland after suffering a broken relationship with Esau for stealing the family blessing. He went to work for his uncle Laban where he stayed for 20 years. It came time for him to leave, but he had no physical assets to show for those years under Laban. Laban had taken advantage of his nephew in every way. (In some ways, Jacob was reaping the seed he had sown his entire life as a manipulator and controller.) Nevertheless, God's hand was on Jacob, and He had plans to prosper him. However, Jacob had one problem - he had no resources of his own. For Jacob to launch out on his own, he would need resources. In those days, resources often meant large flocks of animals. God gave Jacob a dream that resulted in a strategy for creating wealth by multiplying his sheep. Even though Laban sought to thwart Jacob's efforts, God overcame the evil in Laban to allow Jacob to prosper.

There are many important lessons for us in this story. First, when God decides it is time to move you into a larger place of His calling, He has the ability to provide the resources you need to support the call. God gave Jacob a dream that resulted in a strategy never used before to build wealth. It was totally from God's hand. It was creative and new. God called Jacob to move out after he had demonstrated his faithfulness in 20 years of serving Laban. He learned to live under authority and served Laban faithfully, even though he knew he was being taken advantage of.

God will do the same for you and me. However, a word of caution: Be sure the strategy is born from above, and not from self-effort. The difficulty for most of us workplace believers is to learn the difference between the strategies born of God versus the strategy of self-effort.

How to get more business

Wednesday, 19 January 2011 21:30
Anyone interested in growing your business? As many of you know, I am a HUGE proponent of partnerships, promotions, customer loyalty opportunities and giveaways as great mechanisms to accomplish growth.  WHY? How does it works?

Des Moines Christian Business Networking

Thursday, 07 October 2010 13:31
My agenda is simple.... to mobilize a community of Christian business people that transform the culture they live in... that when people in our community want to get a job done they find a Christian or Christian based business because of the quality, dependability, and reliability they offer.

Why this group?

In my search for networking, I found that there were a lot of groups open to business owners, women and non profits, but nothing specifically targeted for Christians in business.  The main opportunities I found for Christian networking were donor dinners and benefit luncheons.  I have designed CBN~DSM with the hope of creating a culture that encourages business networking to happen in an environment where they will not be asked for a charitable contributions.   We do allow those in business at a non-profit organization to visit no more than 3 times a year and ask that they do not prospect within this group for their non-profit organization.  I do have plans to begin a nonprofit networking group in the future, please make sure to let me know if you are interested in coming to that networking group.

Here are some of the traits of those who want to be a member of the CBN ~DSM network:
  • Under promise and Over deliver.
  • Just do business with each other.  Don't ask for "deals" and dishonor another business person just because they are a Christian or they go to your church or bible study, etc.   Doing something for someone else and assuming they will "do the right thing" back is too subjective. Everyone is in business to make a profit, pay their bills, so let's not dishonor by asking for "deals" unless they are offered to you.
  • Bring a lead - be thinking about the people in this group.  Try to think of a potential lead for at least one person in the group between meetings.
  • Charge fair market rate for products or services - no overcharging or undercharging.
  • Work a full day.
  • Don't "borrow" things from the office or employer.
  • Work for your company or client as if Jesus was the CEO and CFO.
  • Say what you mean and mean what you say.
  • Climate of speech - assume the best about another's business or intentions.
  • Mentoring - respect the wisdom of those in similar industries.  Learn from each other.
  • Give Back - Make a difference in our community with your time, talent and treasure.

How Great Leaders Inspire Action

Tuesday, 05 October 2010 09:15
We all want the success of the big guys. Ever wonder how some businesses create it and others just don't? I would suggest that when you don't create what you want, you create excuses to ease the pain of not having it. How many things could you accomplish in your business if excuses weren't an option? What if there were some keys and tips to helping you create those results?
